Questions

Answers to common questions

Who actually does the plumbing work if I use Taskshence Plumbing?

Providers do the work. Taskshence Plumbing is a referral service. We do not send out workers or own any trucks. When you call or send a request, we pass your details to an independent local provider in our network. That provider talks with you, gives the quote, and does the job. Any agreement about price and scheduling is between you and the provider.

How much does emergency plumbing usually cost?

It varies a lot by job. In the U.S., a simple drain clearing often runs about $100 to $350. A burst pipe repair can run from a few hundred dollars to over $1,000. Sewer line repair can reach several thousand dollars, depending on depth and method. Evenings and holidays may cost more. Always ask the provider for a written quote before work begins, and ask what could change the price.

What can I safely fix myself, and where should I stop?

Know where we stop. You can shut off a fixture valve, use a plunger, clear a hair clog in a sink trap, and mop up small spills. Stop when water backs up in several drains, you smell sewage, a pipe is cracked, or the problem is behind a wall or under the slab. Those jobs need tools and training that providers have.

What should I do first when a pipe bursts?

Shut it off first. Turn the main water valve clockwise until the flow stops. Then open a low faucet to drain the lines. If water is near outlets or your panel, stay clear and shut off power only if you can reach the breaker safely and dry. Move valuables up high, take photos, then request a callback to ask about provider availability.

Is a 24 hour plumber really available when I need one?

Call hours vary by provider, so we cannot promise a time. Many providers in our network can respond quickly, and some take after-hours calls. The simplest way to find out is to request a callback and ask what is open right now. If you use the request form instead, say how urgent it is so it can be routed well.

Can I pour drain cleaner down a blocked drain?

Be careful here. Store-bought chemical cleaners can burn skin, harm old pipes, and make a clog dangerous for the next person to open. If you try one, follow the label, never mix products, and wear gloves and eye protection. A plunger or hand drain snake is often safer. If water will not move at all, stop and ask a provider.

Do cold winters and spring storms make plumbing problems worse?

Yes, they can. Deep frost can freeze and split pipes, especially in older frame houses and unheated spaces. Spring flooding and heavy thunderstorms can overload sewer lines and sump pumps. Before winter, insulate exposed pipes and know your main shutoff. Before storm season, test your sump pump by pouring in a bucket of water.

Will my insurance pay for plumbing damage?

It depends on your policy. Some policies may cover sudden damage, like a burst pipe, but often not slow leaks or sewer backup unless you added that coverage. Check your policy and ask your insurer. Providers can often help document damage for a claim. Take photos and keep receipts, and do not throw away damaged parts until you are told it is okay.
